Coach’s Profile: Lisa Norris’ 13-year journey with AITC

In 2008, Lisa Norris began her coaching journey with Albion in the Community (AITC) and she hasn’t looked back since.

“I saw an advert for Community Coaches in 2008 and I remember thinking at the time, ‘I’d love to give that a go.’”

13 years later, Lisa has now established herself as part of the bedrock of AITC’s pool of Community Coaches. After spending over a decade with the charity, Lisa developed a deep passion for coaching footballers with a disability.

“From a young age, I was involved with voluntary work supporting people with a disability, but AITC was the first placed I got involved with specific coaching,” Lisa reflected.

Speaking with a sense of admiration, the coach revealed that she was in awe and fascinated by the individuals she works with. She pinpointed the Sunday adult’s pan-disability league triumph in 2014/15 as her fondest memory working with the club. However, Oliver Turnbull’s elaborate, and unforgettable celebrations came as a close second.

After spending a large proportion of her coaching career with the charity, Lisa has nothing but kind words to say about her experience with AITC.

“It’s a privilege to be a part of AITC, and I honestly mean that,” she shared. “It’s like a big family and from a coach’s point of view, we all wear the Albion badge and kit with pride.

“AITC have been nothing but supportive to me, there’s always work available. We do need more female coaches because to younger participants, we are seen as role models as they’re a lot more girls playing football nowadays.”

AITC is currently recruiting casual Community Coaches for football sessions which are taking place across Sussex. If you’re interested in this exciting coaching opportunity, you can visit the Brighton & Hove Albion job’s page, here.
