Goldstone Primary representing Albion at national Premier League tournament final

Goldstone Primary representing Albion at national Premier League tournament final

Goldstone Primary School will be flying the flag for Sussex at the Premier League Primary Stars U11 National Girls Football Tournament in June.

After successfully making it through the regional finals, the Hove-based primary school will be travelling up to Leeds to represent the Albion in the national final.

The girls will have the chance to play on a Premier League pitch, with the tournament taking place at Leeds United’s Elland Road.

There were 10 regional finals across the country, with hundreds of young people battling it out for a place in the national final, and Goldstone Primary were one of just 20 schools to make it through to the main event next month.

In the group stages of the final they will be facing off against schools representing QPR, Burton Albion, AFC Wimbledon, and Bolton Wanderers.

The U11 National Girls Football Tournament is one of the competition elements of the Premier League Primary Stars programme.

The girls from Goldstone Primary are going to have an unforgettable experience up in Leeds and we wish them all the best of luck.

Launched in 2017 and available to every primary school in England and Wales, Premier League Primary Stars uses the appeal of football to help children to be active and develop essential life skills.

Premier League Head of Community, Nick Perchard, said: “The Premier League Primary Stars U11 National Girls Football Tournament creates an amazing opportunity for girls from across England and Wales to come together and represent their professional football clubs.

“The regional events help to get more girls into football and bring young people together from diverse backgrounds.”

Premier League Primary Stars enables teachers to use resources across English, Maths, PE and PSHE, to support children to develop skills and values that are crucial to success in later life. Currently 103 professional football clubs from across the leagues run in-classroom Premier League Primary Stars sessions in local partner schools.

Matt Dorn, CEO at Albion in the Community, said: “The Premier League Primary Stars programme provides so many opportunities for young people, and this national tournament is one such example.

“The girls from Goldstone Primary are going to have an unforgettable experience up in Leeds and we wish them all the best of luck.”
