Help turn Sussex blue and white and support people with a disability
Albion in the Community (AITC) is asking people to support its work by taking part in a fundraising day which aims to turn Sussex blue and white.
AITC is the area’s largest provider of football opportunities for people with a disability, running more than 30 regular sessions across the county.
These cost, on average, between £2,500 and £5,000 a year to run, and the charity is hoping its forthcoming Blue and White Day will raise a significant amount towards funding its local delivery.
Last year saw AITC hold its first-ever Blue and White Day celebration, with businesses and schools throughout Sussex helping raise more than £7,500 for the charity’s work. That was equivalent to funding two or three disability sessions for an entire 12 months – something which will have benefitted dozens of young people who otherwise may not have had the chance to play the sport they love.
This year’s Blue and White Day will take place on Friday 29 March, and AITC is asking people to get involved by encouraging their work colleagues or their children’s schools to hold a blue and white dress down day, host a bake sale or organise a blue and white-themed fundraiser.
Brighton & Hove Albion mascot Gully will once again be out visiting participating businesses and schools and the charity has produced a fundraising pack full of ideas on how to raise money on Blue and White Day.
AITC’s Mark Barkaway said the charity was looking forward to hearing from any local individuals, businesses or schools who want to take part.
He said: “Fundraising events like Blue and White Day are incredibly important to the charity and help us continue to support people in the local community.
“It would be great to top last year’s fantastic total.
“Everyone who took part last year had a lot of fun. Not only is Blue and White Day a great way to support our work, but it is also a brilliant way to show your support for Brighton & Hove Albion.”
